Methodtothemagic travelled well before challenging in the straight at Uttoxeter on Saturday and staying on at one pace to finish fourth. Tom Bellamy recommended we drop her back in trip to two and a half miles although she has been running on over this distance in the past. We will try and find a suitable race for her over this shorter distance on some decent ground in the next few weeks.
Iron Horse was in contention before making a mistake three out after which he could not go with the two leaders and he finished third. Ideally he would like softer ground in order to be seen at his best and he will now have a bit of a break before coming back in the autumn when hopefully he will encounter his more favoured ground. He is certainly handicapped to be competitive in such races and it was good to see him jump well on the whole following his fall at Chepstow.
Corrany and Sheila Nash are declared at Worcester on Wednesday in the three mile handicap chase and the two and a half mile handicap hurdle respectively.
Corrany has run well over course and distance in the past and was in contention before his race was voided last time out over hurdles. With Finn Lambert on a ban, Sam Twiston-Davies takes the ride and hopefully Sam’s style will suit him.
Sheila Nash makes her debut for us having won several times previously for her now retired trainer, Harry Whittington. Sheila Nash was my landlady many years ago when first starting in racing and was a wonderful character as is her namesake. Although the trip is probably short of her best it will be good to get her out on the course but she may well come on for the run. Adam Wedge takes the ride who has won in the colours of owner Chris Nash in the past.
With a few of the team away during ‘Racing Staff Week’ beginning on the 24th June – we had a staff barbecue on Friday evening at Adlestrop Village Hall. We used the barbecue built in memory of former owner and friend Eric Painting. Despite the fact the boss was the chef on the evening, there have been no reports of food poisoning – unlike in other years, and a good time was had by all.
