At 8:30pm on June 9-2023, Blair Dudeck found and photographed a Cave Swallow flying over and sitting on power lines at the settling ponds at Somass Estuary in Port Alberni.
Map to exact location HERE
This is the second record for BC.
The bird was not relocated in June 10th.
**Note the highway (Hwy 4) to Port Alberni is currently closed in both directions to traffic, due to a wildfire. One could still reach the location via a 4 hour long detour route on a rough and slow logging road (4WD recommended). The province has asked those to only use this route for essential travel. **
