Back from the Sales and Kelso tomorrow – Kinneston

A warm breezy evening, lovely spell of weather unless you are a racecourse trying to run a jumps fixture.  Good to firm at Kelso tomorrow and only 32 runners left in for their 7 races, we have one of them, Mrs Fox in the 3 runner Mares Bumper at 5.45, Bruce rides.

Mrs Fox loves her jumping but a flat race tomorrow!

It’s a shame for the track as they have put decent enough prize money into the fixture but it would be much better spent at a different time of year as Trainer’s don’t want to run their horse on firm ground for good reasons.  Just about doing better than Ffos Las though where they have a 2 runner bumper with a 1-100 odds on shot, the shortest price I have ever seen for any horserace, if you can call it that.

Another field of horses turned out at Kinneston this morning

Tricky times for summer jumping and the races they are scheduling do not seem to be matching the available horse population – bumpers, maidens and better handicaps are struggling to find runners and I can’t see that improving in the coming months.  Mrs Fox will be turned away after tomorrow which will leave us with three horses left in training to hopefully run at Perth next month, actually three more than we would normally have so let’s hope for some nice ground.

A long week at Goffs Doncaster Sales, trade was strong and there was a great atmosphere, good fun if a little frustrating at times as we were underbidder too many times but in the end we came away with three lovely horses to look forward to.
